Finance Manager

Recruit Wealth are representing a national Financial Planning & Wealth Management business who now seek to appoint a highly competent Finance Manager who will report in to the brands COO.

This is an important, pivotal and senior hire for the business as they look to expand on their UK presence and continue to deliver on their expertise within Financial Planning, delivering on pension and investment advice.

  • Responsibility for the Operational Finance function - General Ledger, Purchase & Sales Ledgers and Cash Books
  • Monitoring & controlling cash flow
  • Developing financial models & budgets in accordance with the strategy determined by the Board
  • Develop and maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
  • Preparation of data for annual accounts (prepared by external) & control of external audit
  • Develop & maintain relationships with external advisors, auditors, lawyers, banks etc.
  • Produce month end accounts, including group consolidation, to a strict timetable for review by CEO & Board
  • Work with Operational and Risk & Compliance teams to produce financial data for periodic FCA reporting
  • Reconciliation and cost centre analysis of commissions income and investment income.

Oversee the Finance Assistant role and ensure that between the two roles the following are covered:-

  • Variance analysis of results to budgets & forecasts
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Accruals & prepayment journals
  • Other monthly accounting journals
  • Maintain fixed assets register
  • Daily cash flow reporting
  • Weekly & monthly bank reconciliations
  • Operating costs reports
  • Analyse and validate weekly commission payments
  • Business channel reporting
  • VAT reporting
  • Raise sales ledger invoices to accurately reflect sales in the accounting ledgers
  • Processing sales invoices in XERO
  • Liaising with business channel managers to ensure all sales captured
  • Ensure invoices and credit notes are issued and approved in accordance with Soda
  • Ensuring cheques received are banked
  • Post cash book receipt entries and accurately allocate to invoices
  • Month end closure of sales ledger & reporting of aged debt
  • Credit control of outstanding debt
  • Maintain sales ledger invoice filing and audit trail
  • Processing purchase invoices in XERO, ensuring coding accurately reflects purchases in the accounting ledgers
  • Processing/checking coding & VAT analysis of expenses in XERO
  • Maintenance of the purchase order system - ensuring costs approved in accordance with Soda prior to expenditure
  • Liaising with business channel managers to ensure invoices approved in accordance with Soda
  • Post cash book payment entries and accurately allocate to invoices
  • Produce weekly XERO payment proposals and related back up for approval
  • Post cash book payment entries and accurately allocate to invoices
  • Month end closure of purchase ledger & reporting of aged creditors
  • Maintain purchase ledger invoice filing and audit trail
  • Ensure treatment of VAT is compliant with HMRC- special emphasis on advisory/DFM charging, partial exemption rules and develop optimum group structure
  • Analysis of data and identify areas for cost saving/revenue improvement
  • Process payments from the bank when correctly approved
  • Ad hoc reporting & duties as required

HR/Payroll

  • Maintenance of secure & confidential financial elements of payroll records
  • Process monthly payroll changes & ensure payment on contractual date
  • Ensure payroll validated & approved in accordance with Soda before payment

Competencies and Behaviours Required

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation, with Partners, Advisers, Investors, Banks, Audit firms, Customers & Suppliers
  • Ability to build a small team and work cross functionally with Operations.
  • High level of problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to analyse problems and offer solutions objectively
  • Cloud solutions. Hosted Desktop. Intermediate Excel. Word & Power point.
  • XERO Software experience
  • Qualified - ACA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Experience in FCA regulated environment
  • Good commercial and business awareness
  • Experience of managing a small team would be desirable
  • Industry knowledge & product/regulatory development awareness would be desirable

This is a home based role with very occasional travel to the London offices.
